About Kiwi

Kiwifruit, the fruit of a Chinese gooseberry, was first established as a commercial crop in New Zealand in 1966.  Kiwifruit are ovate, slightly tart, with a brownish “fuzzy” skin.  The entire fruit is edible.  Just for fun, we planted the very small seeds in a flowerpot of soil to see what would happen.  The result is a vine houseplant with  three-pointed leaves (no flowers or fruit).  Select kiwis that are firm, but not hard.  They may be left on the kitchen countertop to soften before eating or storing in the refrigerator.  See the nutritional chart below.
