Pepper, Green Cheese

Cheese peppers are also called bull-nosed peppers.  They are simply a strain of bell pepper that has an extra-thick wall and a flattened shape. They are a superb all-round pepper for eating raw or cooking.  We purchased this pepper at a farm store, and have not found them in supermarkets.  We could not find any specific nutritional information for cheese peppers, but believe it should be similar to Pepper, Green Bell.

    We grew these in our garden this summer in Southern NJ. We got a starter plant from a local green house. I typically don’t like raw green peppers but this variety has a milder flavor and our whole family absolutely loved them! I am afraid we wont be able to find them anywhere again. Gong to try and save the seeds and see if we can grow them again. We were told they were called “cheese peppers”

      Hi Heather: Thank you for your comments. If you are going to save some of the seeds, we believe that you need to allow the peppers to mature to a bright red, and the seeds will become brownish. Dry the seeds on a paper towel and store in a dry place. When you plant them in the spring, start them indoors to protect the seeds from the animals and then transplant them to the garden.
