Plums, golden shown brightly at the farm store where we purchased them. They are delicious.
About Golden Plums
We found these plums at a farm store in late summer, but haven’t seen them being sold at any supermarkets. We are always on the lookout for new plant foods, since we became vegan many years ago, and these are a good find. This is a fruit that we will definitely buy again.
While looking for information about golden plums, we found this description: “the early golden is a very succulent and sweet plum while the Mirabelle is smaller European plum. Shiro, a Japanese plum, is moderate in its size and has a skin which is basically yellow with a blush of pink.” From this description, we believe that these golden plums are Mirabelle plums, which are primarily grown in northeast France. They are obviously now being grown in the United States, too. When fully ripe they are full flavored and sweet. We could not find any specific nutritional information about these specific plums. For general nutritional information on plums, see Plums, Red.

Some background information:
Over the years, people have been asking us, “What do vegans eat?” This is probably because they first think about a flesh product as the main meal, and then think about everything else as a side dish. So, we began publishing the huge variety of plant foods that are available for us to eat in this section of our web site. Additionally, we are always on the lookout for something new to add to our collection and experiment with to incorporate into our meals. We have also found that eating mostly unprocessed plant foods make us much more healthy.
