Rye – A Vegan Pantry Ingredient from Vegan Venue
Rye is a whole grain vegan pantry ingredient that we use in making several kinds of rye and multi-grain bread recipes. See more about it below.
About Rye:
Rye is a relatively modern grain of unknown origin; there is no mention of it in ancient writings. The food value of rye consists of 1.5% fat, 73.9% complex carbohydrate, and 12.2% Protein. The balance of the rye grain consists of 1.9% ash and 10.5% water. We buy rye berries from a food coop, health food store, or online; however, whole grain rye flour is sold in most supermarkets. See nutritional chart below for a 100 gram (3-1/2 oz) portion.
