A scoop can make uniform and decorative half-sphere servings of sticky foods such as mashed potatoes, rice, cookie dough, and vegan ice cream. They are also handy for making uniform sized veggie patties. Once the scoop is filled with the food from the pot or container, it can be inverted over where you want the serving, and by squeezing the side handle, the internal swing arm releases the serving exactly where you want it.
Once the half spheres are on the plate, other food can be placed around it such as oriental or curry dishes around rice. As mentioned above, veggie patty mixes can be scooped out and flattened into the size and shape of the patties you desire. We also found that once we got used to using a scoop, we kept finding other uses for it.
